Recognizing Public Servants, Their Successes & Their Needs

While Americans have a pretty dismal view of government – only 4 in 10 Americans say they trust the government to do what is right at least some of the time – they actually have a much better view of individual federal agencies and career federal employees, according to groundbreaking new research on trust in government from the Partnership for Public Service.

Telling the stories of what government does, and of the public servants who do the work, will play a big role in moving the needle on trust in government, according to Loren DeJonge Schulman, Vice President of Research, Evaluation, and Modernizing Government at the Partnership.

Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) has been celebrated the first week of May since 1985 to honor the people who serve our nation as federal, state, county, local and tribal government employees. This year the Biden Administration leaned into the celebration, with agencies promoting #GovPossible, holding recognition ceremonies and opportunities to serve at their organizations.

Last week the Partnership announced the Service to America Medal Finalists. Voting is open for the People’s Choice Award.

The story of Victoria Brahm leading a turnaround of Wisconsin’s Tomah VA Medical Center following a scandal there beginning in 2015 on the Profiles in Public Service podcast stuck out as a powerful example for the Partnership’s Rachel Klein-Kircher of a federal leadership story that can inspire trust in government.

Outside of government, other organizations and companies are also joining the celebration. The Washington Nationals baseball team is hosting Federal Workforce Game Night on May 11, 2022. 25% discounted tickets can be unlocked for this special event with code KPFED22.
